Peggy's Studio
Peggy Kiefert Krouse, Portrait Artist and Illustrator
About Peggy Kiefert Krouse
Peggy was born and raised in Illinois, and now lives in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. She’s been drawing since she was big enough to hold
a pencil. When Peggy was in Kindergarten, her teacher pulled her
parents aside and told them of their daughter’s talent for drawing.
"Thank you," they nodded and smiled, having heard it many times
already. "No," the teacher insisted, "you don’t understand. You
WILL give this girl art lessons.” And so it began. Peggy’s mother
never went anywhere without pens and paper in her purse, to
occupy her daughter’s time. Many paper placemats in restaurants
resulted in little works of art on family vacations. At least one of
these placemat illustrations is still to this day on the bulletin board
of a family friend.
Peggy began her art lessons in grade school, continued her training
in high school, and then earned a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts)
degree in Illustration in college. But the world of the freelance fine
artist was a risky one, and college loans loomed over her head, so
Peggy then put her art on the back burner to pursue a career in
Graphic Design and Marketing. She learned to master the
computer, but she always knew that one day she’d return to her
passion— traditional, hand-drawn art. The question was, how and
when? (Don’t we all ask this about our dreams?)
